Building successful partnerships with developers
This guide outlines the principles I use in my own collaborations with developers when building an MVP.
- Pre-work. This is what needs to be done before getting in touch with a specialist. Learn how mvpbase was planned, including the pre-work phase in the blog post “How to start an MVP in 2024 as a solo entrepreneur”.
- Project description - one pager, to the point
- Page descriptions - each page separately described in the docs
- Figma prototype based off of descriptions - helps to better formulate UI and shows the flaws in the initial descriptions
- Messaging the dev:
- Project description, Figma/Drive links, asking for a quote - I wrote an email draft before sending any inquiries
- Answering to all the questions, being fast to respond with clarifications
- Agreeing on the timelines and price, exchanging details for a payment
- Agreeing on communication preferences and frequency
- Developing the project:
- Preparing all the images, logos and content beforehand
- Registering and sharing access in the github, database or any other required service by a developer, saving all the passwords and credentials
- Answering to any questions in the timely manner
- Being proactive to solve problems while trusting the developer’s process
- Launching the project:
- Testing the end product, writing down the bugs (being prepared that not all bugs would be fixed and marking the most important ones)
- Hosting, launching online
- Agreeing on maintenance - it’s important to remember that building an MVP means it has to be validated before moving onto developing new functionality.
